Breast Revision
While breast augmentation can offer transformative results, it’s not uncommon for patients to seek additional surgery at some point following their initial procedure. In some cases, this may be due to dissatisfaction with the outcome, particularly when the original surgery wasn’t performed by a board-certified or highly experienced provider. In other cases, cosmetic goals may shift over time or complications with the implants may arise.
As a skilled plastic surgeon in Corpus Christi, Dr. Cassidy Hinojosa has performed a wide range of breast revision procedures tailored to address concerns such as implant removal, replacement, malposition, asymmetry, and more. Whether your motivation is aesthetic refinement or medical necessity, this versatile procedure can help restore confidence in your results. Dr. Hinojosa will take the time to understand your goals, assess your surgical history, and design a personalized treatment plan to achieve the outcome you desire.

What Is a Breast Revision?
Breast revision surgery is a customized procedure designed to address complications or cosmetic dissatisfaction after a prior augmentation, reconstruction, or breast lift with implants procedure. The goal is to restore or enhance a natural, symmetrical, and pleasing breast appearance while resolving any discomfort or aesthetic concerns.
This procedure is most commonly performed to exchange implants, correct asymmetry, remove implants entirely, or—less commonly—address medical issues. Some patients also seek revision to change implant size, type, or placement, or simply because their preferences have evolved over time.
When Is a Breast Revision Necessary?
There are a number of reasons why a revision may become necessary:
- Asymmetry or size dissatisfaction: Uneven breast appearance or a desire for a different size or shape
Implant shifting or malposition: Implants that have moved, “bottomed out,” or sit too high or low on the chest - Rippling or wrinkling: Visible or palpable irregularities under the skin
- Implant rupture or leakage: A break in the outer shell of a saline or silicone implant
- Capsular contracture: Development of firm scar tissue around the implant, causing distortion or discomfort
- Desire to remove implants: Personal preference to return to a natural breast appearance
Regardless of the reason, Dr. Hinojosa approaches each revision case with a high degree of care, attention to detail, and surgical planning to optimize both aesthetics and overall wellness.
How Is a Breast Revision Performed?
Since every patient’s anatomy and goals are unique, breast revision procedures are highly personalized. The surgical technique used will depend on the nature of your concern, the condition of the existing implants, and the outcome you hope to achieve.
Common breast revision strategies include:
- Implant exchange: Replacing current implants with a new size, shape, or type
- Implant removal (explantation): Removing implants with or without a breast lift to restore a natural shape
- Capsulectomy: Removal or release of scar tissue around the implant 2
In the majority of cases, Dr. Hinojosa performs breast revision surgery using general anesthesia. She may also administer a pectoral nerve block (also called a “nerve block” or “pec block”) to ease post-operative discomfort.
The procedure length can vary, but most revisions take between one and three hours. Incisions are carefully placed and may follow the original incision lines when possible to minimize new scarring.
How Much Does Breast Revision Surgery Cost?
The cost of breast revision surgery can vary depending on the extent of the revision, the type of implant work involved, and any additional procedures performed during the same operation (such as a breast lift, which is often incorporated into revision surgery).
